The Labyrinth: Walking Toward the Light | |
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." -- John 8:12 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it." -- Isaiah 30:21 What Is It?
The labyrinth has only one path, a circuitous path that winds throughout and leads you to the center. This winding path with its twists and turns serves as a mirror to reflect how God's Spirit moves in each of our separate lives. As well, the labyrinth is a visual metaphor offering insights on the way we journey through life. Walking a labyrinth allows one to enjoy the gift of going slow, of taking one's time. As one becomes blinded by the fast paced lives in which one lives, he/she can take time to become quiet, to reflect, to appreciate, and/or to give thanks. If you walk the labyrinth with an open mind and an open heart, you will find that it truly is a powerful tool that can transform and deepen your spiritual life.
